Two students from Conant were given scholarships to attend the NHIA precollege program over the summer. Below is some work and a brief description from Shannon Weideman's experience.
"Julia Van Houten and I attended a two week course over the summer at the New Hampshire Institute of Art. I took drawing, abstract painting and art appreciation. It was a wonderful experience. We stayed in dorms, worked late in the studios and became accustomed to College life. Both of my classes included abstract elements. In the drawing course we began with a still life of one kitchen oriented object of our choosing and distorted it three different ways, then transferred the best of the three drawings onto a final piece. In painting we were to pick two pieces of art work, one from an ‘Old Master’ (before the 1800’s) and one from a ‘modern master’ (after 19th century) and create an abstract painting based off of the two. To enhance my already existing background of painting and drawing I learned a great deal in the abstract world and met many new inspiring artists." - Shannon
