Drawing II Grades 9-12 Semester Credit: 1
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Foundations in Art
Recommended minimum of 83 average earned in Foundations in Art
Course Description: Advanced drawing techniques will be examined, explored, and expanded upon. Processes will include but not be limited to observational, gesture, charcoal, pastel, and mixed media drawing. Instruction will be on mark making, technique, handling materials, and composition.
Course Objectives: Using a variety of materials we will practice many techniques and study the history of drawing. Students will know and be able to use a variety of techniques and research in a variety of exercises, projects and written responses to gain a broader understanding of the materials and historical applications.
Course Goals:
1. Develop an understanding of the Elements of Art (Line, Shape/Form, Value, Color, Space & Pattern, and Texture) and use them in creating and analyzing drawings.
2. Learn how to apply the Principles of Design (Balance, Unity, Contrast, Emphasis, Pattern, Movement, and Rhythm) in creating and analyzing drawings.
3. Learn about various artists/styles/materials as they relate to our units of study.
4. Develop skills and language needed to critique artwork.

Unit Three: Advertising / Product Design
Unit Four: Collaboration and community art projects

- Practice writing for critique
- 2-3 pieces from Units 2, 3, or 4 must be shown for written and verbal critique.

Unit Seven: Mixed media and alternative techniques
Final Projects
Final Exam: Critique
- Final projects due
