NHIA PreCollege Program: Shannon Weideman

Two students from Conant were given scholarships to attend the NHIA precollege program over the summer. Below is some work and a brief description from Shannon Weideman's experience.

"Julia Van Houten and I attended a two week course over the summer at the New Hampshire Institute of Art. I took drawing, abstract painting and art appreciation. It was a wonderful experience. We stayed in dorms, worked late in the studios and became accustomed to College life. Both of my classes included abstract elements. In the drawing course we began with a still life of one kitchen oriented object of our choosing and distorted it three different ways, then transferred the best of the three drawings onto a final piece. In painting we were to pick two pieces of art work, one from an ‘Old Master’ (before the 1800’s) and one from a ‘modern master’ (after 19th century) and create an abstract painting based off of the two. To enhance my already existing background of painting and drawing I learned a great deal in the abstract world and met many new inspiring artists." - Shannon

NHIA PreCollege Program: Julia VanHouten

Two students from Conant were given scholarships to attend the NHIA precollege program over the summer. Below is some work and a brief description from Julia VanHouten's experience.

"This summer, I had the privilege of going to a pre-college program at the New Hampshire Institute of Art. Throughout the two weeks I was there, I stayed in the dorms, ate in the cafeteria, and took three college-level art classes in their airy facilities. I was able to work on art 24/7, surrounded by people who love art just as much I do. I had the chance to work on black and white photography, using view cameras, something I had never done before. In just two weeks, I created some beautiful prints from negatives we had developed in the darkroom. My experience this summer solidified my desire to pursue an art career, and now I can’t wait until I head off to college. " - Julia

New Equipment for Clay Program

It's so exciting to get a pug mill for the studio so we can recycle clay from the 3d art classes this year.

We also got a slab roller so we can make a variety of projects from mugs to tile murals.
