Hand Self Portraits

In the 3D Studio Art classes students have started hand casting with plaster strips. Each student will take a turn casting a peer and being cast by a peer. The project will develop into a mixed media sculpture that will represent each students personality. More pictures to come as these casts are transformed into works of art!

Timeline Mural

Students from the Foundations of Art and 3D Studio courses have been working on this mural since the beginning of the year. Each student was asked to illustrate their life from birth with the possibility of including future events. Students were encouraged to use a variety of lines, symbols, and patterns. For some students, adding value (light and dark areas) was a new technique that they were working on. 3D Studio students were required to make their timelines “pop” with the use of alternative materials that they collected from my classroom as well as their cars, bedrooms, and backpacks. Each piece shows the many ways that Conant students are diverse and in some ways how similar they are. Each timeline overlaps or touches another timeline to symbolize how our lives are interconnected and impacted by one another.

Sketchbook assignment: oil pastel and watercolor

With this sketchbook assignment students were asked to create a design using shapes that left a space between each other. Once the shapes were colored in with oil pastel a layer of black watercolor was applied over the entire design.
