2014 Vans Custom Culture

Conant students are participating in the 2014 Vans Custom Culture annual high school shoe design contest! All art classes will be submitting designs and the contest is also open to students not currently enrolled in an art course. Four student designs will be chosen and applied directly to the surface of blank shoes that were sent to us from the Vans company. The winning school will win $50,000 for their art department.
Wish us luck!

Oreo Cookie Relief Carving

In a class titled "Form and Function" students are challenged to create objects that function and sometimes to use objects with a specific function for something else. We were inspired by the artwork of Judith G. Klausner pictured below. Students looked at examples of historic relief carving and cameos. They then practiced relief carving on oreo cookies of their own.

These are some of our results....

Gesture drawing

Students from my advanced drawing class just started a unit on gesture drawing. This is typically a quick drawing of a figure that could be done in as little as 30 seconds! Each student had to model for the group.

AP Student Art Show

Advanced Placement Studio Art students presented their work to the public in a show titled "Breadth." In this show seven pieces from the breadth section of their portfolios were displayed at the River Center in Peterborough, NH. Each piece should demonstrate experimentation and a range of conceptual, perceptual, and expressive development, as well as technical skill approaches to the work. It is possible to do this in a single medium or in a variety of media. This show was advertised in the Monadnock Ledger Transcript and we also designed post cards for the opening reception.
